WANG MESTER

I've never been to Asia and I wouldn’t claim to be an experienced Chinese restaurant-goer either, so I can only interpret my experience as a complete layperson. About 7 or 8 years ago, several acquaintances of mine recommended Wang Master. By today, the restaurant is also present in Buda, but there used to be only one located in Pest, which I tried and liked. The years have passed, but the appearance of the restaurant has not changed in an embarrassing way. Their menu is still a complete food portfolio with photos and detailed descriptions of many dishes. The laminated pages are not very elegant, but they are useful and you don't have to feel uncomfortable if you aren’t sure what to...

BORI MAMI

What's ‘going on here in Gyöngyös’? We visited the restaurant in the centre of Gyöngyös for the first time as the final chord of a weekend in Mátrafüred years ago. We liked Mami Bori so much that time that we returned later, but left disappointed. This time, we decided to go there again. The only reason why I didn't find the Christmas decorations still in their full glory at the end of January a bit strange (although I did find them a bit odd) was that there were still some remnants of the holiday in our house at the time. It's nothing fancy, but it's a nice atmosphere. As it is almost not natural for most restaurants to greet...

CSOPAKI RESTI BY LAUREL

My huge favourite is the smallest restaurant of the country, namely the Csopaki Resti by Laurel. I don't know exactly how big the place is, which used to be a ‘resti’ once, but it's safe to say that most of the flavours per sqm are served at the train station of Csopak. The meals are served by Bence, who is both the careful owner and the soul of the Resti. He takes the calls, he presents the tasting menu prepared in advance by the Laurel restaurant in Budapest, while creating a friendly atmosphere with stories about the dishes and informal, interactive conversation. Their rooster soup covers a ramen and for me it is the non plus ultra! I love it and...

VÖLGYHÍD KONYHA & RÉT

The Völgyhíd Konyha & Rét has given me motivation among others to start an honest and independent gastronomy blog. I couldn't wait to visit here again and to write about them. I had never dreamed then that this would be the last time I would have the opportunity to be their guest...

BUBORÉK CSOPAK – BED, BIKE, BREAD

Although I was born in Budapest, I'm also a ‘Balaton girl’, so I can't help but be biased towards anything related to Balaton. Fortunately, I don't need to be biased to write good reviews about Buborék. Buborék, as a bakery, breakfast and brunch spot, would be perfect in the downtown of Budapest, too. Obviously, the fact that the beach in Csopak is at the end of the street is no little extra, nor is the fact that the premise is also home to a bike shop. I'm not a bike person at all, but I love pistachio croissants and I'm a particular fan of them here. Everything I've eaten here so far has been delicious - the avocado toast, the Croque...

A SZŰCS FOGADÓJA

It is so nice when a restaurant is self-identical. It wants to be nothing more or nothing less than what it is. I think the Szűcs fogadója brings exactly that balance and that's why so many people love the monument of Szada so much. An important preamble is that we had tried to get a reservation (on time!) three times before, but simply could not gain admission due to their full house at the weekend. I couldn't believe it! I was a little annoyed, but then I thought that they must know something if they are being chosen by so many people in these rather struggling times for hospitality. Firstly, the restaurant has a relaxed, family atmosphere, which is greatly helped...

FAUSTO’S RISTORANTE

After the success of our Valentine's dinner years ago, we repeatedly felt like returning to Fausto's. An elegant Italian restaurant with an Italian owner since 1994 in the downtown of Pest. Based on the way the meals are served and the sight of the food, you would not necessarily associate with a premium restaurant and the taste experience is not uniform. The foie gras with chestnuts was delicious and I finally had a really good Tiramisu. I love this dessert when it's so creamy and less sponge cake dominated. Since orata was one of the classics of Fausto's, I had high hopes for it. As the plate was approaching; however, my eyes began to widen and a joke from the young...

SZŐLŐSI KOCSMA

It has never crossed my mind that going to a pub was cool until Szőlősi Kocsma has proved that it is! It was a brilliant idea from the owner of the Balaton restaurant to keep the name of the former art institution, guaranteed to be remembered by all. We went there once in the summer and had a delicious meal. If you have never been to Balatonszőlős, you would not believe what is going on here! A gastronomic paradise is blooming only a few minutes from Balatonfüred, in a small village of 600 inhabitants, which is home to three renowned restaurants. According to Wikipedia, its landmark is Szőlősi Kocsma. January not only brought a new year, but also a new life...

ESSÊNCIA RESTAURANT

The secret of the unbroken success of the Michelin-starred Essência lies not only in the harmonious fusion of Portuguese-Hungarian cuisine, but also in the work and alliance of two extremely talented professionals. Tiago and Eva have realised their dream and invite us on an exceptional gastronomic journey. We have been to Lisbon several times, we loved it and it was great to return for a few hours. The flavours and the sights of the food, the appearance and the atmosphere of the restaurant are wonderful. Everything is so well considered and tastefully composed that you simply cannot find any mistakes. ‘Itthon’ is the Hungarian fine dining menu, ‘Otthon’ is the Portuguese fine dining menu, or you can choose a combination of...
